A Childcare Teacher from the Village

I was born in April 1, 1991 at Beung Kyang village, Beung Kyang commune, Kandal Stung district, Kandal province. I graduated from Beung Kyang childcare center (BK) in 1996.

I have two sisters and one brother. My eldest sister works in Pailin province near Thai border. My elder sister lives in Kean Svay district, Kandal province and my youngest brother lives with my eldest sister in Pailin.  I, myself, rent a small room and live alone in my home town, Beung Kyang village.

My parents passed away when I was 6 years old so I lived with my grandmother and she supported my study until my graduation of high school in 2009. Unfortunately, she got sick and could not support my study any further. I was very upset with regret.  At that time, I applied CYK’s scholarship for the study to be pre-school teacher. So I could continue my study at Pre-school Teacher Training Center (PTTC) for two years, from December 2009 to July 2011.

While studying at PTTC, I lived in the dormitory. I felt difficulties at the beginning. I did not adapt immediately to that environment with many other  students  from different places. We did not understand well each other. But later on, we could help each other so I had many friends. PTTC has strict rule that everybody must obey it but it was also a good training for my life. I’m very happy to have this experience as well as good friends. I felt that I became an adult when I graduated from PTTC.  I felt also I could live alone in the society with the experiences I got from the study. Before graduating, I also went to practice teaching with children in two government pre-schools in Phnom Penh.

On the graduation day, I performed Khmer traditional dance. I felt very proud of it and very happy as I could successfully complete my study. But at the same time, I also felt very sad, it was the time for saying good bye to all of my friends.

After graduating from PTTC, with the support from CYK, I became a childcare teacher at Beung Kyang childcare center where I had been cared and educated. This is my turn to provide care and education to the children in my village. I’m very happy to work with my ex-teachers. They always give me a good advice when I did wrong. They teach me how to take care and educate children, and communicate with parents in the village.
